Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) has unveiled its design for its first project in Georgia, the 57,000-sq-m, 42-storey Cityzen Tower near the capital Tbilisi’s new Central Park.
Built on the site of the former headquarters of Soviet forces in central and south Caucasus, the tower will anchor the new Cityzen development in Tbilisi’s Saburtalo district.
It will have apartments, offices, and leisure amenities.
ZHA said Saburtalo was an evolving urban area served by Line 2 of the city’s metro system. A number of state university faculties are based there, as well as commercial areas and new residential developments.
The Cityzen neighbourhood creates a new hub in the west of Tbilisi with interconnected pedestrian routes, plazas and gardens.
It’s next to Tbilisi’s new 36-hectare Central Park, which has botanical gardens, woodlands and sports facilities.
ZHA said the design was inspired by the capital’s undulating landscape. Landscaped terraces will cascade from the tower toward the park, providing south-facing outdoor spaces for cafes.
