Three extensions have opened on Beijing’s metro, bringing the total length of the system to 879km.
The completed projects are: the last section of the Changping Line’s southern extension, a connection between Dongsishitiao and Dongba North on Line 12 and a link between Sijiqingqiao and Dongba North.
The 43km of new lines add east–west routes into central Beijing and north–south connections with Anzhen, Dongba and Madian.
Wu Yulan, a deputy director at the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport, is quoted by China Daily as saying: “The newly opened subway lines are crucial for easing traffic congestion in the city’s central area and supporting the development of places along their routes.”
Beijing’s metro system currently has 29 lines and 522 stations.
