Vinci Highways has won a 30-year concession to operate and modernise a 594km section of Brazil’s tolled BR-040 highway.

It’s the company’s second in Brazil after taking a 55% stake in Brazilian road operator Entrevias in May last year.

It connects the cities of Belo Horizonte and Cristalina and is a main route inland to the capital Brasilia.

It also serves the ports of the south coast, carrying mining, farm, and industrial products.

Last year it had 17.5 million toll transactions, an 8% increase on 2022. Heavy vehicles accounted for 40% of traffic.

Vinci’s planned improvements include widening some 300km of it, 60km of new service roads, wildlife crossings, and reforesting around 600 hectares.

It will take over operations in the first quarter of 2025, after a transition phase with the client, Brazil’s National Road Transport Agency.

With the BR-040 concession, Vinci now manages just under 1,200km of highways in Brazil and eight of its airports.
