Vinci Airports’ concession to run six airports in the Dominican Republic through its subsidiary Aerodom just got a 30-year extension.
It began in 2016 and was due to run to 2030, but Vinci said on 22 December that the Dominican Republic had agreed to extend it to 2060.
Vinci said it will build and operate a new, $250m passenger terminal at the airport serving the capital, Santo Domingo.
The agreement sees Aerodom paying the Dominican state $775m for the concession this year: $300m immediately and $475m at financial close in the first half.
Aerodom will then invest a further $830m in the airports over the concession period, including the $250m for the new terminal at Santo Domingo.
In the next 36 years, Vinci will be responsible for financing, operating, maintaining, and upgrading the airports under concession.
Vinci said that since Aerodom took over, traffic at its Dominican airports grew by 6% a year between 2016 and 2019, before covid.
From January to November 2023, traffic was up 17% over the same period in 2019, the company said.
In 2022, Aerodom’s contribution to Vinci’s revenue was €191m.
