Vinci Construction has announced an agreement to acquire the long-established UK public works contractor, FM Conway, through a share purchase.
Founded in 1961 by Francis Michael Conway, and still owned by the Conway family, the contractor specialises in roadworks, and civil engineering in England from its base in Sevenoaks, Kent.
Vinci did not disclose the terms of the deal.
FM Conway’s turnover in the financial year ending March 2024 was £580m, it said.
Vinci said it expects to close the deal in early 2025, subject to regulatory approvals.
In 2023, the Vinci Group generated a total revenue of almost €6bn in the UK through its three business lines: concessions, energy and construction.
It employs around 13,000 people in the UK.
Subsidiaries include Eurovia, Ringway, and Taylor Woodrow.
Joanne Conway, CEO and Executive Group Chair at FM Conway, said: “The time is now right for the next chapter of our growth story. Beyond the obvious operational and commercial synergies, we share a set of values with Vinci and an approach to business that’s about putting people first, doing great work, and respecting the communities we operate in.”
