Vinci Grands Projets is to team up with its sister companies GTM Sud-Oues and Chantiers Modernes Nouvelle-Aquitaine to design and build a waste-to-energy plant in the commune of Brive-la-Gaillarde, in the Dordogne in southwest France.

The €100m contract, awarded by water-and-waste specialist Veolia, will replace an existing plant. It will be able to incinerate 10 tonnes of waste an hour, which is roughly the amount produced by 200,000 residents.

The project will use the latest generation of waste processing systems to treat flue gases. The electricity and heat produced will be used by local industrial and community facilities.

The work is expected to take 51 months, and will employ 200 people at the peak of its activity.

According to Vinci, its subsidiaries have built up considerable expertise in waste processing and waste-to-energy systems. In France, they have carried out the construction or modernisation of plants in Saint-Ouen-l’Aumône, Ivry-sur-Seine and Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine near Paris, as well as Nice on the Côte d’Azur.
