UNStudio designs “exemplary” masterplan for Indian tech campus

Dutch architect UNStudio has designed a masterplan for Karle Town Centre (KTC), a tech campus in the heart of Bangalore’s Silicon Valley.

KTC, which is currently under construction along the Nagavara Lake, is located close to the city’s ring road, metro lines and the already-established Manyata Tech Park.

The 62 acre development has been designed around three pillars: health, culture and garden. UNStudio says the landscape and architectural language of KTC will complement each other, such as integrating green pockets with building facades.

The project will have a grand central theatre, event plazas, elevated retail stages and amphitheatre-style staircases to create what the architect describes as a “multitude of smaller and larger meeting points”.

KTC will contain underground roads to reduce congestion, transport time and noise, and streets will “smoothly transition” into designated drop-off points.

Multiple destinations have been clustered together in green and shaded areas to limit traffic and encourage pedestrian mobility.

UNStudio says the project aims not only to inspire Bangalore locally, but all of India by leading by example when “designing future urban destinations”, with an “urban plan reflecting an open and inviting campus; a place where people can garner a new impression of India”.
