Planning permission has been granted for a biodome complex designed by UK architect WilkinsonEyre and local firm Basalt in Iceland’s Reykjavik region.
The Aldin Biodomes will be sited on ridge overlooking the the Elliðaárdalur valley, where it will give views of Iceland’s midnight sunsets during the summer and the northern lights during the winter.
The complex itself will contain a main nature dome with a specialty restaurant and market for Icelandic products, a tropical dome showcasing exotic plants and a “farm lab” offering information about local food production. All will be heated using geothermal energy.
