UK consultant Turner & Townsend has been picked as project and cost managers on a&o’s second hotel and hostel investment in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The project will refit a former office building in the city’s industrial area, currently undergoing major redevelopment. It and another building will be converted into a 219-bedroom hotel and hostel.
A total of 7,300 sq m will be renovated from ground to sixth floor in one building and ground to fourth floor in the other. The two buildings will be linked by walkway bridges, Turner & Townsend said.Â
The project is due to complete in May 2020.
a&o is the largest privately owned hostel chain in Europe, operating 39 facilities in 23 cities.
It announced plans for a second hotel-hostel in Copenhagen, in the city’s former industrial area Sydhavn, in July last year.Â
Turner & Townsend director Nima Nicolas Aase said the project would be managed from its Stockholm office.
He added: “This is our third commission with a&o in Europe, following the successful completion of hostels in both Poland and Germany, and it highlights our growing expertise in the Scandinavian market.”
