Saudi Arabian company DataVolt will invest $5bn in a 1.5GW datacentre in Neom, Saudi Arabia’s vast new economic zone planned for its northern Red Sea coast.
Located in the Oxagon district of Neom, the project is described as an “AI factory campus” that will use sea water cooling to achieve net zero operation.
Rajit Nanda, DataVolt’s chief executive, said: “This project marks a milestone in advancing the kingdom’s leadership as a digital powerhouse in the region.”
Vishal Wanchoo, Octagon’s chief executive, said: “We are accelerating a renewable energy industrial ecosystem that is set to power businesses with green energy and technology solutions.
“The agreement with DataVolt highlights the potential impact of the sustainable infrastructure Oxagon offers its tenants and sets the foundations for the first green AI workload.”
The datacentre is expected to be operational by 2028.
