Paris-headquartered Systra has won a systems project management contract for Stockholm’s new Yellow Line, set to be the sixth line of the Swedish capital’s metro system.

In planning since 2020, the line will run 8km underground from the west-central Fridhemsplan station south to Älvsjö, a growing district intended to be a future transport hub. The line will have six stations.

Stockholm is one of Europe’s fastest growing metro regions. Some 48,500 new homes are planned along the route, Transcenda reports.

Construction starts this year, with project completion expected in nine years.

It will be the first fully automated line on the city’s metro system.

Systra said the line is expected to carry up to 75,000 passengers a day by 2050.

Working for organising authority FUT, Systra will help implement all systems for the line over the construction period, including rolling stock.

It’s Systra’s first major metro contract in Stockholm.

Systra said it will deploy an international technical team and automation experts from the US.
