The scheme will link the city’s west and south-west with the city centre, Sydney airport and Port Botany.Â
The federal government has loaned $1.9bn to the government of New South Wales to fund the construction of stages one and two of the scheme. Work will begin on stages one and two of the project early next year, and are due to be completed by 2019.
The project involves the construction of 19km of tunnels and 14km of surface roads. This will provide a six-to-eight lane carriageway. The total cost of the scheme will be more than $10bn. The motorway will create 10,000 new jobs and will allow commuters to bypass 52 traffic lights.
