Sweco is part of an alliance contracted to design the first tramway for the city of Turku in Finland.
The 12km, 19-stop line will run from the harbour via the city centre to the Varissuo area.
It has a target budget of €344m, excluding tram cars.
The design and construction alliance consists of Sweco, GRK Suomi, Ramboll Finland, and NRC Group Finland.
Sweco said the value of it’s part of the project is around €6m.
“This is a comprehensive urban development project that will impact the development of the city, and its urban region, for decades to come,” said Sweco Finland president Thomas Hietto.
He added that it would “contribute to Turku’s goal of being carbon neutral by 2029 and, in the future, becoming one of the world’s leading cities in the climate transition and in protecting nature”.
The development phase starts this month. Construction is scheduled to run between 2026 and 2031.
