Austrian contractor Strabag has landed a €297m contract to demolish, reconstruct and extend the FD Roosevelt University Hospital in central Slovakia.
The completed hospital campus will contain a total of 771 beds across multiple facilities. These are divided into two sections, north and south, separated by a green boulevard.
The southern area will house an 11-storey main building with 91,000 sq m of space, consisting of an “X” shaped structure on top of a base building.
The hospital’s north section will contain a building for infectious diseases, a training centre, administration offices and a car park.
The project will make use of planted roofs and timber construction to ameliorate the clinical feel of the buildings.
Strabag’s Slovakian subsidiary will work alongside local firm Siebert + Talas as planner and designer.
Klemens Haselsteiner, Strabag’s chief executive, said: “We are extremely pleased to have been awarded this complex turnkey project in our neighbouring country. It’s an opportunity for us to demonstrate our innovative technological expertise with our local teams.”
The project has attracted €442m in funding from the EU. Work on the project is due to be completed in 2029.
