Spanish technology and engineering consultant Ayesa has won a contract to provide detailed design for the mechanical and electrical (M&E) systems for new metros being built in the Indian cities of Bhopal and Indore in the interior state of Madhya Pradesh.
The cabinet of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the two systems in 2018.
At that time, both systems were due to open for service in 2022, but work has proceeded more slowly than hoped.
Contracted by the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation, in Bhopal Ayesa will design M&E for six elevated stations and two underground stations on the Orange Line, and 13 elevated stations on the Blue Line.
In Indore, the company will design M&E for five elevated stations and seven underground stations on the Yellow Line.
Elsewhere in India, Ayesa has worked on metro systems in Bangalore, Delhi, Noida, Lucknow, Mumbai, Pune, Jaipur, Kolkata, Chennai, and Kanpur.
The company also led the development of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor, India’s first semi-high-speed rail project, managing all aspects from bidding and design to commissioning, operations, inspections, and securing statutory approvals.
