Norwegian architect Snøhetta has unveiled its design for a children’s museum, to be located in Omaha, Nebraska, on the banks of the Missouri.

The four-storey Omaha Children’s Museum and public plaza will replace the current version of the attraction, which was founded in 1976 and has been in its location on South 20th Street since 1989.

The museum will be geared towards children aged up to eight and will include exhibition spaces, a 175-seat performance venue, a play-workshop and café.

Visitors will be greeted by a rubberised play and climbing area in the outside plaza and swirling railings and stairs inside the museum.

Accessibility features and exhibition spaces will be embedded in the permanent architecture.

The museum will transfer to its new home in 2027. This will be at 8th and Douglas, close to the Heartland of America Park and the Kiewit Luminarium science attraction.
