The Slovakian government has announced that the country’s Olympic training centre in Samorin, a town is the country’s western Trnava region, will be expanded to contain a 5,000-capacity venue.

The Slovakian state will spend €20m on the project, which will be co-financed by X-Bionic, the sportswear brand that also sponsor the neighbouring multi-purpose X-Bionic Sphere sports complex.

The facility will contain improved basketball, floorball, handball, tennis and volleyball courts.

The expansion is part of a larger sports infrastructure push intended to support a bid to host the Olympic Games in 2036 or 2040.
