Skanska has won a €48.75m contract from the Västra Götaland region to renovate and expand the Eastern Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden.

The project includes remodelling on two levels in the existing central clinic and adding a new, five storey building.

In total, the construction works cover a gross area of about 16,000 sq m.

Skanska said the project will increase the capacity for combined intensive care and pressure chamber treatment for the region and the country.

It will also open up opportunities for advanced research, the company said.

Construction is scheduled to start in March and finish in April 2028.
