Skanska’s programme management group, Skanska Integrated Solutions, has finished the new Josiah Quincy Upper School in Boston’s Chinatown in time for the 2024 school year, earning praise from the city.

The $223m project was funded in partnership with the City of Boston and the Massachusetts School Building Authority, which provided $54m of the funding.

Skanska was programme manager for the project, planning for which started nearly a decade ago.

Totalling 178,000 sq ft in area, the six-storey school accommodates 650 students in grades 6-12, 84 staff members, and 29 classrooms.

Facilities include a 435-seat auditorium, a 125-seat theatre, and a 10,000-sq-ft gym (City of Boston)

The ventilation system has enhanced air filtration to mitigate pollution from the adjacent Massachusetts Turnpike.

The project also included landscaping and re-paving surrounding streets and sidewalks.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on 12 September.

Rohn MacNulty, deputy director of public facilities for the City of Boston, called Skanska an “outstanding” programme manager.
