Agustin Escobar, Global CEO of Rail Infrastructure at Siemens Mobility, died with his family yesterday in New York City when a sight-seeing helicopter they were in fell into the Hudson River, The New York Times reports.

All six on board died, including Escobar’s wife, three children, and the pilot.

Police said the Bell 206 helicopter, a type widely used commercially and by governments, took off from a downtown heliport at around 3pm local time and crashed approximately 15 minutes later.

A witness told the AP news agency that he saw the aircraft “falling apart” in mid-air before it hit the water.

According to Escobar’s LinkedIn page, he had been with Siemens for just over 27 years, and had been global CEO of rail infrastructure since October 2024.

Before that, he was President and CEO of Siemens Spain.

This week on LinkedIn he had celebrated the groundbreaking on Monday of Siemens’ £100m manufacturing, digital engineering and research facility at Chippenham, Wiltshire, UK.
