Plans have been announced to build a $186m concrete plant as part of the huge Neom development programme in Saudi Arabia’s northwestern Tabuk Province.
Saudi building materials company Asas Al-Mohileb is to develop and operate the facility, which will be able to produce over 20,000 cubic metres of ready-mix a day.
The multi-plant facility will incorporate carbon capture and utilisation technology.
Most of the concrete will be used at “The Line”, a futuristic city that, if all goes to plan, will eventually house 9 million people in a footprint 200m wide and 170km long (see further reading).
The Line’s substructure and superstructure will be made from concrete. A press release from Neom says work has already begun on its piling.
Nadhmi Al-Nasr, Neom’s chief executive, said: “The delivery of these concrete plants is another testament to the rapid progress happening at Neom. It also underscores the strength of the Kingdom’s construction industry and the critical role local partnerships play."
The factory is due to begin producing concrete in 2025 and will create 500 local jobs.
