Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund has announced “The Rig”, a 150,000 sq m entertainment and tourism hub located on a former oil platform in the Gulf.
The Rig will contain three hotels, restaurants, helipads and a range of activities including extreme sports and rollercoasters.
The project is in line with objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, a plan for the kingdom to attract investment and diversify its economy away from oil.
In a press release issued by the Public Investment Fund, The Rig is described as a “significant value-add to the local economy” that will “ensure the sustainable preservation of the environment”.
