Paris’ Pompidou Centre for modern and contemporary art has announced plans to open branches in Saudi Arabia and South Korea.

In Saudi Arabia, the centre has signed an agreement to create a museum of contemporary art in the ancient city of AlUla. It will also train Saudi staff in the management of collections, as well as cultural and event programming.

A South Korean branch of the French institution will also be built in Seoul, as part of a four-year partnership with conglomerate Hanwha Group.

The Seoul Pompidou will open in 2025, and Hanwha’s headquarters in the city will be renovated by French architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte.
