23 May 2013

Plans for an $824-million Qatari mega mall being built next to the future FIFA 2022 World Cup stadium were revealed today.

The World Cup-themed Mall of Qatar project is expected to welcome 20 million customers annually with its own integrated metro station and high-speed rail links to Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, according to Qatari newspaper Gulf Times.

The mall will feature a three-storey hypermarket running the length of three football pitches along its central spine and a fourth-storey domed roof amphitheatre holding international restaurants and multiplex cinemas.

Developers UrbaCon Trading & Contracting promised it will become "The Place To Be" for shopping and leisure in the region and construction is on schedule for it to open Sept 2015.
