The Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, has announced a €300m renovation of the Eiffel Tower (pictured).
The aim of the work will be to help Paris in its bid for the 2024 Olympics and the 2025 World Expo.
It will cut queues, create a reception area, renovate the lower levels and lifts and add security features. The tower itself will be repainted and cleaned.
The improvements will be paid for by increasing the annual funding for the monument from €13.7m to €20m over the next 15 years.
