The Government of Pakistan has launched tenders for the development, rehabilitation, commissioning and private commercial operation of two hospitals.
One, Cairns Hospital, is a 210-bed facility at Lahore Railway Station. Completed in 1939, it serves railway employees.
The successful bidder will be allowed to operate it commercially on condition that Pakistan Railways employees and dependents are treated free of charge.
The project entails the development, rehabilitation, commissioning and operation of the hospital on rehabilitate-operate-transfer (ROT) basis.
The other, Hassan Hospital, is a 120-bed facility in Karachi Cantt, another ROT initiative.
In both projects the private-sector entity will finance the rehabilitation, operation, and transfer of the hospital for a pre-determined period of not more than 30 years.
Potential private sector partners have until 15 May to submit their bids.
