UK-headquartered engineering consultant Buro Happold has appointed Christian Ulrich, formerly Arcadis’ Central European chief operating officer, as managing director of its European business.
The company said he was a “central part” of its strategy to double the size of the business from 2,000 to 4,000 staff in six years through acquisitions, joint ventures and partnerships in Europe and elsewhere.
He will become a Buro Happold Partner and join the firm’s global leadership team.
“I am joining at the start of a hugely promising next chapter in the Buro Happold story,” Ulrich said. “I will be using all of my experience to build on the strong existing network already in Berlin, Munich, Warsaw, Copenhagen and Rotterdam.
“Through organic growth, alongside strategic acquisitions, we will strengthen the creative and technical talent across Europe that has earned Buro Happold its world-class reputation.”
Buro Happold chief executive James Bruce, who set out his growth plans when he joined in May 2021, said: “Europe is central to our ambitions over the next five years, so we are overjoyed to have Christian at the helm. This is an incredibly exciting time as we evolve as a business with a far wider reach both on the continent and across the globe.”
European projects Buro Happold has worked on include Munich’s SAP Garden sports arena, the Varso Tower in Warsaw, and the award-winning Lille Langebro bridge in Copenhagen.
