Vestas bags 1GW turbine order for Norwegian onshore wind project

Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has been awarded its largest order ever.

The customer is Fosen Vind, a joint venture company owned by Statkraft, TrønderEnergi and a consortium of institutional investors including Credit Suisse Energy Infrastructure Partners and Swiss utility BKW.

The 1GW order comprises turbines for six wind parks in Norway, which together will make up Europe’s largest onshore wind project to date.

The contract includes supply, installation and commissioning of the wind turbines as well as a 20-year service and support agreement.

Delivery of the first turbines is planned to take place in second quarter of 2018, with the commissioning of the last wind power plant expected in fourth quarter of 2020.

Klaus Steen Mortensen, Vestas’ Northern Europe president, said: “The order affirms the competitiveness of Vestas’ wind power solutions and that wind power provides an attractive long-term energy investment that goes well beyond its climate and sustainability benefits.”

Recently, Google aquired Vestas’ stake in the Lake Turkana Wind Power Project in northern Kenya.
