Van Oord wins Caspian Sea work worth $500m

Dutch contractor Van Oord has won Caspian Sea contracts worth more than $500m.

The news was announced during the Dutch prime minister’s recent visit to Kazakhstan.

The first project involves the dredging of a 68km access channel to a cargo offloading facility to be operated by TenizService.

Four cutter-suction dredgers will remove some 17 million cubic metres of mud in shallow water, thereby enabling the expansion of the Prorva port and helping to facilitate the growth of Kazakhstan’s oil and gas industry.

For the second project, Van Oord will perform preparatory work for the installation of two pipelines. This will involve excavating and backfilling two 8km-long trenches.
