Dutch architect UNStudio has won a competition to masterplan a revamp of Russia’s Black Sea Sochi resort with the aim of making the city a year-round attraction for visitors.

The SoCo mixed-use project will bring together the city’s concert hall, museum of art and the Winter & Summer Theatre by means of a “cultural spine”. Meanwhile, a marina and a business and innovation centre will be added to the beach.

To the north of the beach, there will be a “Festival Village” and to the south there will be three new districts: SoCo Playgrounds, SoCo Arts & Culture and SoCo Healthy Lifestyle.

A series of “micro-neighbourhoods” will also be built complete with smart technology and “green ecosystems”.
