A team led by Dutch architect UNStudio and Korea’s DA Group has been chosen to design the Chungnam Art Museum in South Korea.
UNStudio’s design was selected after a "nail-biting online jury deliberation", beating proposals from ALA, BIG, Grafton, Steven Holl and Snøhetta.
The development will be one of South Korea’s first zero-energy museums and aims to become a living space that will adapt and grow over time.
The project will contain a plateaued central courtyard and a "cultural boulevard", combining the outside with the inside and providing links throughout the site.
The museum is described by UNStudio as a place of inspiration, participation and contribution, for both artists and the community.
Ben van Berkel, UNStudio’s founder, said: "Art has the power to bring people together. It inspires, it teaches and it fosters communities. The Chungnam Art Museum will be a place for people to experience this … and much more."
