“Tower of the future”: ZHA’s design picked for Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base

Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) has won the competition to design the nearly 400-metre-tall Tower C, one of a cluster of new towers set to be built at the ambitious Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base in China.

The striking design features an open, terraced base of public space that links to surrounding park land and extends up into the heart of the double tower. ZHA calls it a "Tower of the future".

Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base is intended as a commercial hub to attract global companies, accommodating some 300,00 people, ZHA said.

ZHA described Tower C as a "multidimensional vertical city" that provides "column-free naturally lit office space" along with retail, dining, a hotel and convention centre.

Tower C’s double-insulated, unitised glass curtain wall will have cavities to draw in air, providing natural and hybrid ventilation.

Aquaponic gardens on terraced levels will filter air pollution, while low-volatile organic compound materials will counteract indoor pollutants.

ZHA said its 3D modelling tools optimised efficiencies in architectural massing, orientation and façade-to-floor ratios.
