German elevator firm Thyssenkrupp is to construct a 128m-tall elevator qualification and test tower – the highest in America – in Cobb County, Georgia.
With 18 shafts, the tower can be used to trial concepts and prototypes, as well as checking the standard elevators’ compliance with safety requirements.
Thyssenkrupp will also build a headquarters building for 900 full-time employees, 6% of the firm’s US staff.
Andreas Schierenbeck, Thyssenkrupp’s chief executive, said: "Our test tower in Atlanta will be a testimony to Thyssenkrupp’s commitment to investing in its global network of innovation centres, which all have forged ever-deepening ties with students and universities nearby."
Thyssenkrupp has previously built two high-speed test towers in Germany and China.
Completion of the complex is expected to be completed by early 2022.
