Two Spanish companies, Idom Consulting and IngenierÃa y EconomÃa del Transporte (Ineco), have been awarded a €13m contract to design and supervise the Baltic high-speed line in Latvia.
When the contract is formally signed next month, the joint venture will have 24 months to plan the building of a 56km section to Riga International Airport.
Rail Baltica, the body overseeing the entire project, commented on its website that Idom, which has 3,500 people in 45 offices around the world, had more than 20 years’ experience in designing rail in Europe, America, Middle East, and Africa.
Ineco has been working in transport engineering already for 50 years, and has a workforce of 3,000 based in more than 50 countries. It is presently working as a designer on the UK’s High Speed 2 project.
Rail Baltica is a 870km, €5bn project to extend the European rail network from Poland to Estonia by 2026.
