SNC-Lavalin lands Grand Paris Express, France’s “largest public transit project ever”

Canadian engineering giant SNC-Lavalin has announced that the Linéov Group, a consortium consisting of SNC-Lavalin, Algoé and Transamo, has been awarded a project management assistance contract by the Société du Grand Paris (SGP) for both the supervision of the construction and operations of Line 18 of the Grand Paris Express transportation network.

Some 36km long, Grand Paris Line 18 will link Orly Airport with the city of Versailles.

It will include 10 stations, three of them air terminals, within a larger 200-kilometre, 68-station network.

With commissioning planned initially for 2024, and the second phase occurring in 2030, Line 18 will offer a connection to Orly Airport, as well as interconnections with Lines B and C of the regional fast-transit system (Réseau Express Régional or RER).

Under this contract, SNC-Lavalin will advise SGP on project management as well as overseeing all the contractors and suppliers involved in the Line 18 project, the company said.

With 14 kilometres of viaduct line and substantial technical, environmental and heritage constraints, SNC-Lavalin will leverage the expertise it has already acquired both on the international stage and on major transportation projects in France, such as the Reims and Orléans tramways, the LGV Est rapid transit line, and the Puy-de-Dôme cog railway.

As an ancillary service for SGP, SNC-Lavalin will also carry out a pre-project audit for the southern extension of Line 14 of the Paris metro, to be built by RATP and Aéroports de Paris, co-principals in this project with SGP.

"We are very proud to be participating in the largest public transit project ever launched in France," said Eric Gratton, Vice-President, Cities & Transport, SNC-Lavalin.

"This contract will reinforce our expertise in the development of mass transit networks, particularly in ÃŽle-de-France, where SNC-Lavalin is already serving as project manager for the Tangentielle Ouest tram-train system and general coordinator for the extension of tramway Line T3 to northern Paris."
