Specialist wood supplier Kebony has shared pictures of a new, luxury floating sauna that now graces Tromsø Harbour in Norway, offering visitors the chance to sweat out their concerns under the Northern Lights before taking a dip in the Arctic waters.
Kebony products were specified by the sauna’s designer, Skapa Architects, for the structure’s exterior façade, roof and ocean terrace decking.
Developed in Norway, Kebony’s technology gives sustainably sourced softwoods the attributes of tropical hardwood by heating the wood with furfuryl alcohol, an agricultural by-product, which polymerises the wood’s cells.

Some 2,000 metres of Kebony Character was used for the cladding, decking, roof and the shingled cladding around the sauna’s entrance.
Other companies behind the Tromsø Sauna are sauna specialists Pust and handcrafted furniture company, Ekte.
Kebony said the team worked through various challenges over the past year to "create the floating masterpiece which is seen by locals and visitors as a space to breathe, disconnect from the world whilst connecting with each other".

"The public has really embraced the sauna and made it a part of their daily lives," said Erik Stange Ankre, of Pust.
"People come at all hours of the day, either for a morning swim, a lunch time bath or a night time session as late as10pm. The supreme finish provided by Ekte has really made the sauna feel like a little bit of everyday luxury for the people of Tromsø, and of course, the beautiful Kebony makes it stand out as well."
