The US subsidiary of Italy’s Salini Impregilo Group has won a $253m contract in Florida for the Wekiva Parkway development in Seminole County, north of Orlando.
Lane Construction will design and build a 4.2km section of a toll road from Orange Boulevard to east of Rinehart Road.
The Wekiva Parkway project includes work on the Interstate 4 interchange that will connect with Florida State Road 417.
Lane Construction’s contract is part of the 40km Wekiva Parkway toll road, which aims to reduce congestion between Orange, Lake and Seminole counties.
Salini Impregilo say the project is environmentally friendly, as wildlife will be protected by the creation of 3,400 acres of conservation land, as well as wildlife bridges and elevated roadways to allow animals to move around out of the way of vehicles.
Construction is due to begin in early 2019 and be completed in 2022.
