Danish engineer Ramboll has released a 90-second fly-through of the latest design for Liverpool’s cruise liner terminal.
The scheme, which was granted outline planning permission in April, combines passenger and baggage handling facilities with a four-star hotel. The detailed design is being progressed with a view to submitting a further planning application in November.
Joyce Brady, Ramboll’s project director, said: "This is a major regeneration project for Liverpool City Council and their partners that will play an important role in growing Liverpool’s tourist numbers.
"Our team, including architect Stride Treglown, and major sub-consultants JLL and Turner & Townsend, are looking forward to seeing the scheme through its construction stage and into operation and accepting ships."
Gordon Tero, director at Stride Treglown, added that its design aimed to make the terminal "open and outward-looking". He said: "Expansive glass walls frame far-reaching views across the city and out to the Irish Sea, and a zinc skin will shimmer with tones of the River Mersey. A concrete plinth, upon which the building sits, is a modern interpretation of the old dock walls".
The contractor for the project, which Ramboll estimates will create 500 jobs, will be Wates.
Site preparation works are expected to start in the new year.
