Consultancy firm Parsons Brinckerhoff has been appointed program management consultant on the Makkah Public Transport Program in Saudi Arabia.
The firm has been awarded a 60-month contract with a fee of approximately $93m from the Development Commission of Makkah and Mashaaer to oversee the construction of a network of buses and trains providing transport across Makkah.
Four metro lines, with total lengths of 114km and 62 stations will be built as well as a 60km rapid bus network within the city and a 65km local bus service for areas outside.
New feeder and shuttle bus services linking park and ride networks to transport hubs will also be provided.
Parsons Brinckerhoff will be responsible for the general supervision of consultants and contractors, the development of project controls, contract administration, the management of third parties and technical management.

The firm will also be responsible for health, safety, and environment management and will provide administrative support to the Makkah Mass Rail Transit Company.
Parsons Brinckerhoff said that the project holds "great importance beyond the extensive technical requirements".
President and chief executive officer of Parsons Brinckerhoff George Pierson, said: "The Makkah Public Transport Program provides a significant opportunity for Parsons Brinckerhoff to build a partnership with Makkah Mass Rail Transit Company to fundamentally change the travelling experience of millions of national and international visitors, as well as for the local population."
