Seven major global firms including Bouygues, Vinci and Japan’s Taisei are leading consortia that have been selected to bid for the construction of a new international airport in Myanmar.
Work on the new Hanthawaddy International Airport in the central Bago region is expected to begin in June this year, and to be complete by 2016, local media report.
More than a million tourists visited Myanmar in 2012, according to Myanmar’s tourism ministry, up from around 800,000 in 2011.
