MAD Architects’ undulating Paris apartment block “almost complete”

A Parisian apartment block awarded to China’s MAD Architects and local firm Biecher Architectes in 2012 is almost complete.

Located in the northwestern 17th arrondissement, the UNIC development tapers as it rises, and has undulating floor plates that create a series of terraces with balconies, gardens and balconies on the exterior – contrasting with the linear "Haussmann-style" apartments seen in much of the city.

The block contains a kindergarten, retail space and community resources, and a metro station is integrated into the structure.

The building in the wider Clichy-Batignolles development. This is split into nine plots, with the project teams working on each section collaborating to make sure each project complements each other.

It is due to be completed in September 2019; residents are scheduled to move the following November.
