A glass slide will be added to the top of a 300-m-high skyscraper in Los Angeles.
The 14-m-long ‘Skyslide’ is made of clear glass just over an inch thick and links the 70th and 69th floor of the U.S. Bank Tower.
The tower is LA’s tallest building and the 65th tallest in the world.
Real estate developer OUE will also open a 260-sq-m observation deck, called Skyspace, at the top of the building with views across downtown Los Angeles.
It will be the highest observation deck in California.
San Francisco’s Gensler designed the observation deck, and New York’s M.Ludvik & Co. designed the Skyslide.
The slide and deck are part of a plan to ramp up the building’s attractiveness to commercial tenants. Â
OUE bought the tower for nearly $370m in 2013 from real estate investment firm MPG Office Trust. According local media it was half empty at the time and is still only 75% occupied.Â
Thrill seekers will pay $8 to use the Skyslide, and $25 to visit Skyspace, which will open on 25th June 2016.Â
In the UK, meanwhile, plans are afoot to turn the country’s tallest sculpture into the world’s longest slide.Â
