Great Northern Connect (GNC), a joint venture between Laing O’Rourke and BGC Contracting, has been awarded an AUS$417m contract to deliver the NorthLink WA central section for Main Roads Western Australia.
The section is the second package of a program of works to upgrade Tonkin Highway to freeway standard and extend this link north to Ellenbrook, connecting with Great Northern Highway and Brand Highway at Muchea.

The highway will provide the northern link into Perth for heavy freight traffic and create direct access for growing suburbs such as Ellenbrook.
The GNC team will design and construct more than 20km of highway, four interchanges, including 14 road bridges, three footbridges and new cycling and pedestrian facilities.
Laing O’Rourke’s Australia Hub Managing Director Cathal O’Rourke said: "We are extremely pleased to be playing a major role on another significant project for Western Australia.
"This project builds on our growing portfolio of national road infrastructure projects and marks an important stage in our growth as a delivery partner of choice in the sector."
Construction is expected to start in mid-2017 and scheduled to be complete by mid-2019.
