Australian construction group John Holland, a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company, will develop a project worth AUS$1bn (US$793m) transforming a site in Sydney’s Macquarie Park into a commercial precinct.
The 3.2ha development, awarded by the state-owned entity Property NSW, will be capable of accommodating up to 117,000 sq m of commercial office space.
The project will create over 4,000 jobs during the development phase and ultimately house over 2,500 office workers.
Joe Barr, John Holland chief executive, said: "This is a strategic site located in the heart of Sydney’s second biggest commercial district and adjacent to the soon to be upgraded Macquarie Park Sydney Metro station.
"We look forward to working with Property NSW and the City of Ryde to unlock the site’s full potential, enhance its transport connections and create a precinct for everyone that works, visits and lives in Macquarie Park."
Located on Waterloo Road, the project’s initial stage will be anchored by a 25,000 sq m pre-commitment by Property NSW which will be completed in 2019.
Development is scheduled to commence in late 2017.
