A joint venture between US engineer Fluor, Germany’s Hochtief and Dutch contractor Heijmans has been awarded a €990m contract to widen a section of the A10 motorway in southern Amsterdam and move it underground.
The contract includes expanding Zuid station and seven years of maintenance on the tunnels.
Fluor and Hochtief have a 42.5% share of the Zuidplus consortium, and Heijmans has 15%.
Zuidasdok is being jointly managed by the City of Amsterdam, ProRail and the Directorate-General for Public Works.
The widening and partial tunneling of the A10 South motorway will take place at the De Nieuwe Meer and Amstel junctions. It will make the Zuidas district more accessible and add public spaces, including a bicycling park.
The final contract is expected to be drawn up in mid-February, when it will be further defined.
Hans Dekker, president of Fluor’s infrastructure business, said: "This preliminary award is of great importance to us as it supports our strategic plan, and we will be executing the project with partners who have a proven track record of delivering similar undertakings."
Construction is planned to begin in mid-2019 and be completed in 2028.
