The Royal Commission for Riyadh City has appointed French infrastructure group Egis to develop an upgraded travel forecast model for the Saudi Arabian capital.
Riyadh aims at substantial growth to reduce dependency on oil by increasing the number of educational institutions, health care clinics and housing supported by efficient transport links, Egis said in a press note sent to GCR.
It will maintain the city’s existing transport model and help build an updated version by doubling the number of specified zones from 1,500 now to 3,000, making the model more sensitive to socio-economic and demographic factors.
Egis said it will develop “futureproof transportation methods and modal systems” to meet fast-growing demand for mobility.
The collected data will be used for calibrating multi-modal travel forecast models to address anticipated heavy traffic issues in light of mega projects like King Salman Park, Qiddiya, Diriyah, Misk City, KAFD, King Abdallah International Gardens, Jewan Housing Project, and metro expansion.
