Cimic Group subsidiary CPB Contractors has won two contracts in Melbourne, one to deliver stage 2 of the Monash Freeway upgrade, the other for the next stage of works on the Sunbury Rail Line.
CPB Contractors’ US$508m design and construction contract on the Monash will include the creation of 36km of new lanes, upgrades to the Beaconsfield interchange, the extension and widening of O’Shea Road and the introduction of a management system to control traffic flow.
Juan Santamaria, CPB’s managing director, said: "Our absolute priority is the safety of our people and all road users. We will be applying our experience, built over many decades, to safely deliver this upgrade in a live traffic environment."
Construction is scheduled to start in early 2020 and be completed in 2022.

CPB Contractors’ will work on the Sunbury Line rail project as part of the Rail Infrastructure Alliance, which includes John Holland, Aecom as design partner. It is being developed by Rail Projects Victoria and rail franchisee Metro Trains Melbourne.
CPB Contractors’ role in the team is worth $106m.
The Rail Infrastructure Alliance will work on:
- Power and track improvements to High Capacity Metro Trains travelling through Melbourne’s Metro Tunnel
- Overhead electrification works between Sunbury and South Kensington and at South Yarra
- Signalling power upgrades
- Additional infrastructure at Calder Park sidings.

Work on the Sudbury Line will begin this year and is due to be completed in 2023.
