A consortium of domestic and Chinese firms will build two hydroelectric dams on the Santa Cruz River in Argentina’s Patagonia region.
China’s Gezhouba Group and Argentina’s Electroingenieria have been awarded contracts worth $4.1bn to build the dams, the Argentine government announced in its official gazette.

Once complete the dams, named "President Nestor Kirchner" and "Governor Jorge Cepernic", will generate 1,740 megawatts of electricity combined, nearly 6% of Argentina’s current capacity.
