China’s CSCEC to build new towering HQ for Commercial Bank of Ethiopia

State-owned China State Construction Engineering Corporation Ltd (CSCEC) has beat off competition to a $266.5m contract to design and build a new headquarters for the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia in the capital, Addis Ababa.

The 150,000-sq-m development will comprise a 200-m tower and two 5-storey podiums. 

CSCEC said it beat off competion from Middle Eastern and Chinese firms to win the job, adding that the tower will be “the tallest building in the local area”.

In a statement CSCEC said: “In the tender appraisals, the architectural design scheme and construction plan of CSCEC were accepted by the employer and its management team, which enabled CSCEC to become the bid winner among other contractors from the Middle East and China. 

“The Project is to be another landmark building contracted by CSCEC following the African Union Conference Center, and is a new breakthrough in its operation in Ethiopian market.”

Engineering News-Record ranked CSCEC as the world’s top global contractor by revenue in 2014, with a turnover of $97.8bn.
