US construction firm CH2M has signed a contract with the Indian State of Andhra Pradesh to develop its new capital, Amaravati, as India’s first "smart capital city".
CH2M will be programme manager in major infrastructure developments that integrate digital technologies in phase 1 of the scheme, spread over 217 square kilometres. It will also project manage the construction of a new government complex consisting of the High Court and State Assembly Building.
The deal announced by the company on 19 January was facilitated by the US Department of Commerce’s trade promotion arm, the US Commercial Service.
As the new capital of Andhra Pradesh, Amaravati, located on the banks of the Krishna River, will become the first among India’s planned smart capital cities to be developed.
CH2M said it would offer high-tech and knowledge-based jobs, making it more globally competitive.
